Effects of Unhealthy Career Competition

“Run Forrest! Run!”

Look around the familiar world you live in. Most of the people seem to be a Forrest Gump, running and running and running to reach the desired destination. But, there’s a difference. Instead of Jenny, it’s Money that utters the inspirational words: “Run Forrest! Run!”

True, that success and prosperity does not come easily. You just cannot wake up from a dream one fine morning and find that you have become a millionaire. You have to work hard – very hard. Once it was desired that everybody should understand this. Now, everybody truly understands this. And, that is the biggest irony. People do not work hard, they work harder.

‘Competition’ is, perhaps, the most perfect word to describe the modern lifestyle. Look at the teenage students, aspiring professionals, businessmen, politicians, media channels, websites and everything. It seems that we all follow a common motto – ‘Life is a race. Run fast; or else, others will take you over.’ Having a competitive bent of mind is a condition for success and prosperity. It is necessary, but with a positive touch. Where the definition of success is being able to do better than others, success does not hold its real meaning.

Job competition or career competition are common terms in relation to the present world of profession. Every body wants to be a winner in the career competition. And, the matter of regret is that success is determined in terms of money. Of course, exception is there. But its existence seems to be for the sake of establishing the common trend – as they say, exception proves the law.

During employment search most people look for greater earning. While in a job, he is in a rat race in names of job competition or career competition. However, such competitions are unhealthy. Look at the price you are paying for what you think as success. People work hard to such an extent that you fall victim to stress. They are so much concerned about achieving their target they suffer from anxiety. Happiness is the biggest price that you pay for your efforts to be the winner in this rat race.
